Home to Homestead

Race number 36 is done and gone. It was and will remain the closest finish in NASCAR history and future. What are the chances that two drivers will again finish with exactly the same points?

We had a fairly close family finish, too. Between first and second places were only 34 points.

Phoenix

The top two Chase drivers are only three points apart. In the family chase, the top two players are 50 points apart. Both contests are heated and more exciting than ever. Both will continue until the last lap at Homestead. I suggest you have plenty of popcorn on hand.

Texas

Kyle Busch being parked for the weekend at Texas caused some last minute scrambling for replacement drivers, but we were all too smart to go with Mike McDowell. The worst score for this week was still better than the best score from Talladega. Sure as shootin', Billy Bob and Princess A wish they gave Kyle's brother the push this week, too. 30 points....

Martinsville

Martinsville had 19 cautions, close to the record 21. The last one closed the lead Jimmie Johnson had on the pack, and allowed Tony Stewart to pass him. The gap between our first and second place players has closed to 109 points, and we have three races remaining. The points' gap between 5th and 6th places is only two points and for two weeks running the 6th place player has won for the week.

Talladega

NASCAR could run a race at Talladega seven times in a week and have seven different outcomes. Talladega isn't just about talent, it's about luck and strategy. Most of the Chase drivers finished in the back half of the pack, if they finished at all. Some of mine decided to call it a day before the checkered flag, something about cars not running. And the 78 hauler decided to burst into flames after the race in sympathy for Regan Smith's misfortune.

Is there anything more pitiful in NASCAR than 21 pairs of cars drafting and one lone leftover car drafting all by himself? Denny eventually found a dance partner and finished 8th.

Crappy Old Charlotte

What happened to the Hendrick drivers? There is something not quite right when Junior beats all his teammates. And there's something not quite right with me when I hang on to Jeff Gordon instead of changing back to Denny Hamlin, because it cost me first place for the week. Next week is Talladega, and you are going to see some changes then or my name isn't Daisy Mae.

After last year's contest, some players discussed changing the rules in scary ways that I didn't understand. I now state categorically that we need to make some changes in the rules, and we need to discuss this at Thanksgiving, if not sooner. Anyone interested in changing things up, bring an idea or two to the table. For two years in a row I haven't had a ghost of a chance to win, and maybe some of you feel that way as well. I want that to change, and for places to shake up from week to week even if it's scary.

How about if we can't choose the same drivers two weeks in a row? Or even three weeks in a row? How about if we have to go through the top 35 drivers in the points' standings before we repeat a driver? I am willing to try the buying the drivers for points if someone can explain it so that I understand it. We need to try something so that some of us haven't lost hope before the Chase is over. Think about it.

Loudon

Loudon was scheduled to run on Sunday, 9/25/11 @ 2:18, and so it did! Gas mileage was a factor, but so was talent. Teammates squabbled and crewchief's cheerleading was not well received heehee. The order has changed a little, but wait 'til next week. Which is Dover, the Monster Mile. A lot can happen, so buckle your seatbelts.

Chicago was rained delayed until Monday while most of us were at work, or on their honeymoon, or ripping out weeds and brush. The first place player has not changed in 16 weeks. It's Bristol, Baby!

After Bristol, we are still lined up in the same order. Winner for the week is (are?) 1,2,Earnhardt,4 & Rooster. Point spread is 305. Tony Stewart really needs to fix his program or I'm never going to win this. Here we go -

Daisy Mae - 1610 pts

Watkins Glen and Michigan

Watkins Glen was rained out until Monday and would have been worth watching. Alas there is work to be done. The order hasn't changed yet. Here are the points.

Billy Bob - 1290 pts
1,2,Earnhardt,4 & Rooster - 1392 pts & weekly winner
Daisy Mae - 1458 pts
Princess A - 1478 pts
Zeeee - 1552 pts
NASCorolla - 1575 pts

Point spread is 285.

Michigan wasn't rained out but some of the drivers must have thought it was because they went to the garage early. Some of them were my drivers.

The order still hasn't changed, but the point spread between first and second is smaller than last week.

Billy Bob - 1355 pts
1,2,Earnhardt,4 & Rooster - 1483 pts
Daisy Mae - 1544 pts
Princess A - 1558 pts
Zeeee - 1614 pts & weekly winner
NASCorolla - 1647 pts

Overall points spread is 292, going on the wrong direction. Special thanks to Kurt Busch, Carl Edwards, and Denny Hamlin for finishing in the 30s. yay. Next week is Bristol, a Saturday night race. Should be filled with sparks and maybe some of our drivers will finish under 35th.

Sunday, August 7, 2011

Pocono

Pocono had a 110 minute rain delay which really messed with some positions. Joey would have won if they called it, and instead had a bad finish because of a tire down. Jimmie and Kurt had a little post-race spat, mostly on Jimmie's side, and Kurt promised that there will be more coming attractions from the 48 & 22.

On a more local level, Billy Bob is still in first, overall and for the week. boo hiss

Billy Bob - 1220 pts
1,2,Earnhardt,4 & Rooster - 1342 pts
Daisy Mae - 1364 pts
Princess A - 1391 pts
NASCorolla - 1458 pts
Zeeee - 1480 pts

Our points this week were close, ranging from 29 to only 50. The overall spread is 260.

Next week is Watkins Glen. That should shake up a few points.
